Accessibility

It is the policy of The Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge that citizens with disabilities achieve accessibility to the provision of goods and services by the Municipality to this community, consistent with the principles of independence, dignity, integration and equality of opportunity as set out in the regulations of The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the Municipality's Accessibility Policy.

Background Information

There are 1.9 million people in Ontario with disabilities. This number is expected to increase as the population ages because the incidence of disability increases with age.

The Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA) was given Royal Assent on December 13, 2001, and is considered to be Canada's most comprehensive legislation to improve access for people with disabilities and set the foundation for the development of accessibility standards under the AODA, 2005.
